Venna Melinda acknowledged the passing of her father, Jimmy Rekartono, who passed away a few days ago. Venna chose to increase her prayers and focus on carrying out her late father’s mandate, including caring for her younger sibling who has special needs.
Venna revealed that the seven days when her father left was the point at which she began to accept her fate. He and his son, Athalla Naufal, have also made a pilgrimage to Jimmy Rekartono’s grave at Jeruk Purut TPU.
“What is certain is that on the seventh day Papa died, the feeling now is that every time after prayer he sends Al-Fatihah. Yesterday, Athalla and I made a pilgrimage to Papa’s grave in Jeruk Purut. We also had seven daily yesterday, because many of Papa’s relatives had returned out of town,” said Venna Melinda to detikcom on Jalan Captain P Tendean, South Jakarta, Tuesday (13/1/2026).
“Now we are more able to accept that everything will return to Allah. It’s just a matter of how we, as children who love Papa, have to send lots of prayers,” he continued.
In the midst of her grief, Venna is now focusing on her younger brother, Alvin, who has special needs and is now an orphan.
“We have four children. There is one sister, my other mother, who has special needs. My commitment is to my siblings, we want to take care of Alvin. For his health and life because he is an orphan,” explained Venna.
According to Venna, taking care of Alvin was one of the biggest mandates left by her late father.
“That was actually Papa’s consent before he died, who would take care of this child later. Thank God, Sis Verrel and Sis Athalla also worked together. We are handling Alvin’s life as a family as a form of our love for Papa,” he said.
He also remembered the figure of his father who was always present in difficult times. Including when he faced a domestic violence case and divorced from Ferry Irawan. Jimmy Rekartono was even the first person to accompany her to the hospital during the domestic violence incident in Surabaya.
“For the past five years, I have been very close to my father. During the domestic violence case and the second divorce, Papa stood by 24 hours. He was my motivator, moral support,” he said.
“In the seconds he left us, he showed how much fatherhood he had. His memories are different,” continued Venna Melinda, praising her late father.
One of the biggest lessons Venna learned from her late father was sincerity and patience in caring for children with special needs.
“Papa is 73 years old, still taking care of children with autism. It’s not easy, but Papa can manage his emotions, he never gives us trouble,” he said.
Now, the extended family has agreed to continue looking after Alvin in the house left behind by his father. Including full support from the entire Venna extended family.
“Alvin remains at Papa’s house with his aunt and sister who have taken care of him for 20 years. Financially, we are the family who are the backup. That is a form of our responsibility and love for Papa,” promised Venna Melinda.
