FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA – The implementation of the Free Nutritious Eating Program (MBG) has drawn a sharp spotlight following the rampant cases of poisoning experienced by students in a number of regions of the country.
One of the worst is in Bandung Regency, West Java which has set an emergency situation or extraordinary event (KLB) because of the many students who are poisoned by MBG dishes.
Member of the Indonesian Parliament from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle, Charles Honoris stressed that the problem of poisoning in the MBG program was not merely in the field implementer, but was more caused by the weakness of the system. Therefore, he encouraged that the recommendations that emerged were directed at improving governance and not the termination of the program.
According to him, without system improvement, poisoning cases will continue to repeat as the number of kitchens increase. This condition, said Charles, can bring up trauma among parents so that children are no longer allowed to consume food from the MBG program.
“If the system is not changed, then it is almost certain that poisoning will continue to be repeated. So in the next few months, without even a negative campaign, I have the confidence of parents of students in Indonesia will have trauma and fear to no longer allow their children to consume MBG. Meanwhile, Deputy Chairman of the House of Representatives Commission IX Yahya Zaini proposed solutions and alternative management of MBG so that mass poisoning problems did not occur again. For example, pointing to the school to provide a MBG menu whose quality is more guaranteed and fresh when served to students.
