FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA – Kasua mine in various regions in Indonesia, especially in Raja Ampat, is now a sharp spotlight in Indonesia and the world community.
Not only the ecological side, spiritually, many religious organizations are also concerned and express unrest and strongly protesting the destruction of nature in the name of investment. After previously protests from the Muhammadiyah environmental environment, now protests have also emerged from the alliance of churches in Indonesia (PGI).
Through a statement of attitude sent to the editor of Fajar.co.id, PGI believes that the future of the earth can only be maintained if humanity again organizes its relationship with nature in humility and responsibility.
With this perspective, PGI expressed deep concern over the widespread practice of extractive industry in Indonesia which ignored ecological sustainability, social justice, and human dignity. PGI views, Indonesia currently faces an increasingly serious ecological crisis, where tropical forests and small islands are opened for mining.
Land, water, air, and all God’s creations that must be maintained for the sake of a joint home actually become a victim of greed in the name of development and material benefits. Water quality decreases due to rivers polluted by industrial waste. Everywhere indigenous people lose space
life and livelihood. With grieving, we witness the marked ecological crisis
loss of biodiversity, ecosystem damage, climate change, and injustice
against local communities.
