Political Parties Crowd Supporting Regional Elections through the DPRD, Bivitri Susanti Suspects the Government Also Wants Presidential Elections through the MPR

FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA — The discourse on regional elections through the DPRD seems to be becoming more and more interesting and is being widely discussed by the public. Moreover, the majority of parties that have seats in Senayan said they agreed with this idea.

In the midst of massive support from the political elite at the center for regional elections to be returned to the DPRD as before reform, this has raised concerns from a number of parties. Especially those who have been vocal in fighting for reform to remain firm, as was the wish of elements of the nation in 1998.

As is known, one of the reasons the government is discussing regional elections through the DPRD is because the practice of money politics through regional elections is immediately widespread. Apart from that, the costs that the state must incur to carry out the regional elections are also not small.

Responding to this, Constitutional Law Expert, Bivitri Susanti, sharply highlighted the desire of the government and political elites to restore the regional head election system through the DPRD. He even accused the return of being a form of returning to the New Order pattern of government.

Because of this, Bivitri said that if this discourse was realized, he said the Indonesian government would enter a new order at the latest.

“I agree, if you say that we are facing the newest new order, that’s right. New new order,” said Bivtri, quoted from YouTube Abraham Samad SPEAK UP, Tuesday (6/1/2026).

He said that if this situation really happens, the regional head is elected by the DPRD again, he will ensure that the people’s vote is completely useless. Have no control and cannot demand accountability properly, in a democratic context.
