FAJAR.CO.ID, JAKARTA — Minister of Home Affairs (Mendagri) Tito Karnavian said that the government would send a team to conduct a comprehensive audit of health services in Papua.
This step is a direct instruction from President Prabowo Subianto, following the case of a pregnant woman who died after being rejected by four hospitals in Papua.
“His (President Prabowo’s) order was to immediately make improvements through an audit,” Tito told reporters after a limited meeting at the Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Monday (24/11/2025).
Tito said he had coordinated with the Governor of Papua, Mathius Fakhiri, to take emergency steps, including ensuring that the victim’s family received all the assistance they needed.
He also asked the regional government (Pemda) to immediately gather all hospital leaders, provincial and district/city health services, as well as private health service providers to identify the root of the problem.
“I asked the Governor, after I received the information, to immediately go to the victim’s house. The victim’s family must be helped,” said Tito.
Parallel Audit of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of Health. Tito emphasized that a team from the Ministry of Home Affairs (Kemendagri) will go together with the ranks of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) to carry out a parallel audit of health services in Papua.
The Ministry of Home Affairs will audit regulatory aspects, including Regent’s Regulations and Governor’s Regulations which regulate services at the Jayapura District Hospital and Dok II Hospital as provincial referral hospitals.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health will send a special team to carry out a technical audit of services at the relevant hospitals.
